Rambling Thoughts on Certainity

Rambling thoughts

Paul K

Woody Allen once said life is mostly luck—you can do everything right and still have things fall apart. Borges, more poetically, pictured existence as a labyrinth of shifting paths and hidden forks. Both capture how unpredictable life can be: even a steady job or careful plan offers no guarantee. The only way forward is to keep moving, even when each step feels like it might lead deeper in.

Spending more time with family has added perspective. Without moving back in, I’ve found the extra connection revealing. Family can be a time capsule and a mirror, prompting reflection on choices made and paths still open.

A book I read put it simply: every problem eventually becomes ours to handle. That can sound harsh, yet it carries a promise. Nietzsche’s line—that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger—still resonates. Even in a world of chance and hidden corridors, we can grow stronger each time we choose to keep going.

In the end, I’m reminded of Ecclesiastes: “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong … but time and chance happen to them all” (Ecclesiastes 9:11). Life doesn’t always reward perfect planning or steady effort; even the strongest face setbacks. Yet Scripture reminds us that this unpredictability isn’t cause for despair — it’s an invitation to trust, to keep walking forward with faith that each step has meaning, even when the path bends in ways we can’t foresee.
